Prayer
On a chilly northern beach
A white shell & a red rock share this prayer.
One shimmering on a shrine aligned with gentle frigid waves,
One tucked into a driftwood nest, both blessed
by the proclamations of a child born of innocent belief
that these “prayer rocks” might hold powers of relief
from our hurts and troubles. So I placed my offerings there,
selected both for beauty and uniqueness, with particular care.
To these unknown beach-side gods, my whispered request:
That this might be OUR year, that we might be more than mere
guests within each others hearts and lives.
Sitting cross-legged on the sand with folded hands
I sent my prayer aloft to remain where
on a chilly northern beach a white shell & a red rock share
this prayer that 2025 be our Together.
