Raining Ash

Waiting at the end of the hands that hold

The weather had it’s day and story told

Knots tightening the gray of the day dismayed

With talk of fire coming this way

The world’s been burning for far too long
She wants a family in this landscape of ash
The Phoenix begins anew

Never anymore is the always  spoken

When it rains we can breathe again

The breath of life choking and burned broken

The hands that hold keep forgiveness within

Talk of flight to leave this place by wings and a backdoor
Light from the window in the house facing west
The sunset undressing
The moon has woken
Escape possible in their shift
Ashes raining sing this story
A road fading in distance fuels her hope

In this land made by snow drifts of bone
The Phoenix sees the setting sun
Waiting to out shine the moon
Lighting the way for those of chance
Whose hearts carry the sea deep within
