GREEN CHILIES
Down by the river,
Where the green chilies dry,
Where the peppers are sorted & sized.

Down by the river,
Where the herons’ dark shadows,
As ballerinas rise.
III
Down where the river is wide,
Green chilies in bunches wrapped & tied
Awaiting the pirogues to arrive.
