Death Notices

Obituaries are dark curiousities,
I hope I’m not in there,
In black & white,
Not yet I conceed,
Death Notices are morbid, macabre,
What a sight!
I pervue them along with the birth notices
So I will not sob,
The dead feel no pain,
Have no pressures, sorrows
Or bills to pay with no job,
I should get of this track,
The dead are looking too good today;
Alas Death Notices bring news of last days,
Stories of lives lived to the fullest
Or snuffed out by a bullet,
No worry to die I hears is less
Painful than to be born,
Who says this anyway
And where is this deceased person I scorn,
Death Notices are a timely first stop
For many older folks who read the paper,
Myself I go right to the funnies,
They lift me up those capers,
I like to experience life with cheer,
Why read Death Notices anyway,
Why ruin the party with thoughts of dread & fear,
To ignore is not to be deceived,
My time with come soon enough,
I grieve.
