What Lies Beneath
Flowers of spring have begun to bloom.
Bright spots of color in Winter’s gloom.
In Winter’s gloom do flowers bloom.
And what feeds their questing roots?
What lies below these winter snows,
where a beautiful flower grows?
A terrible secret from summer’ days
does hide where no human knows.
On an eve in June, neath starry skies
an unthinkable act was disguised.
A man whose friend’s wife despised
him decided she would no longer survive.
Wooing the vacuous woman into giddiness,
this man went on with his plan so hideous.
Never a cowardly beast so insidious
strove to get his way, ending the life of the wife.
Now the foolish woman is naught but fertilizer,
where her murderer did not memorialize her.
But her bones got even in the end as blooms they
up did send, to be picked by unsuspecting child.
