caveman dreamer
I like to think I’m quite a spark
a wise and clever man
I can name the elements
or kings of old Siam
but sitting in my techno-cave
I wonder how I’d do
if we lost all we’d ever made
and had to start anew
I understand the theory
of scientific ways
like how the pictures on tv
once came from cathode rays
but I can’t make the pictures dance
or spin a copper thread
I can’t construct an engine
though I see it in my head
If all we ever knew were lost
just think who would do well -
the ancient tribes, too few left now
to save us all from hell
