Island in a River

In that term, as I remember,
I first built my delusion.
From September to December,
Was childhood’s conclusion.

Back at home for Christmas,
In my tropic paradigm.
Sailing under Lion Mountains,
Barracuda on the line.

To an Island in a River;
Jungle-ruined fortress walls.
They that saw the last departure
Of ten-thousand stolen souls.

Shipped away across the ocean,
Shut into a living tomb -
They came for Kunta Kinte then;
And come for me within this moon.

Bunce Island, Sierra Leone - deserted slave fort island. Visited by sailing dinghy '78

I don't belittle slavery here, its how I felt at the time:)

As most will know, Kunta Kinte is from the book 'Roots' which I read in '77.

Other works by 'stiltskin...
