There May Never be a Time

May 26. 2006

I feel a sinking
in my heart ..
I think I felt it
from the start.
I see it doesn’t
really matter
how comfortable
your banter . . .

You pulled away ..
when you
seemed satisfied.
Only pretending happiness  ..
you lied.

I see beneath the surface of
your dark veil
and shudder from
your visceral withdrawal.

You reel me into
your warm embrace ..
then overnight
your affection erase.

I do not cling,
or complain,
or demand ..
I simply say, “goodbye” and sadly
shake your hand.

Oh, my love,
I love you
so completely.
But you keep me
at arms length .. sadly.

Briefly, I thought
we had brightness,
and happiness,
and beauty . . .
Now, love, I fear
there may
never be a time
when you are
truly satisfied.
