Anaximandros:
“Hesiodos captured in tales of long verse
lives of our ancestors surviving death,
bestowing on mighty men and wise women
powerful virtues to control wild nature.
Perhaps some young boy watched his father stand,
gesturing arms at crack of lightning flash,
and thought his old bearded father possessed
power to cause that lightning to flash bright,
so when he grew beyond childhood and thought
how to explain nature to his own son,
he told tale of bearded man who caused lightning.
Thus myths grow from stories our parents tell,
becoming world-view reason must dispel.”
