To a dear friend
I was in a tunnel, so dark and dangerous
Alone, in my mind, yet surrounded by others.
I was stuck there, no way out, no escape,
Confined to my thoughts, no glimmer of hope.
My heart wept with sadness as words filled my head
I used to battle to save myself, but this time I gave up instead,
The days got much darker and nights seemed so long,
I feared my fate as I journeyed along.
Then you came to me, with a candle burning bright,
a caring soul and arms open wide.
You lit the candle in the darkest of days,
The light was shining brightly, like the sun ablaze.
In my mind a path I could see, bumpy and traitorous, I fell to my knees,
my body was weak and my heart was broken,
although you showed me the way through all the destruction
Onto a road where nature was all around,
the sun shone brightly and birds flew without sound.
So my thanks goes to you, so heartfelt and true,
I wouldn’t be the same person if it wasn’t for you x
