The Red Road

The Red Road..........

They lived in peace and harmony with earth and all of life,
It’s the red road that they walk upon for it’s the only road that’s right,
Broken homes, lives and families,
For something called 'progress’,
You took their peace away from them and now look at this mess,
The sorrow still lingers for what’s been done,
So many voices still unheard,
But there’s one big thing that your forgot,
So I’ll speak my families words,
'You have tried and failed to break us,
But our spirit still fights on,
Keep trying but you’ll never take us,
Keep telling yourself you weren’t wrong,
It wasn’t genocide you were trying,
Oh heck no, not at all,
You weren’t trying to destroy us,
or try to make us fall,
I hope that you sleep well at night,
For all the wrongs been done,
And in case you hadn’t noticed were still here and you haven’t won,
Take from us what you will,
But know this to be true,
Our spirits will not surrender,
Nor ever bow down to you,
Our story will continue,
Until the end of days,
And our strength only increases,
Something you cannot take away,
Our people have turned the tables,
Shared our word and faith anew,
Going forth in leaps and bounds for we know what we can do,
You couldn’t take our identity with your cruelty in the past,
Nor could you make the separation of the people last,
For now we all stand together,
Strong and wise and free,
And we will tell you to 'go ahead and do your worst,
But you won’t get the best of me’.
