Books for a Lesson
slam the door shut and close the book
turning back in the chapters never got you anywhere
a story isnt meant to be read front to back
and then back to front
once a book has come to its close
you hand it off
you sell it
you donate it
you can reread a book but you already know how it will end
you might get to relive your favorite parts
but the ending is always the same
so cross the book off your list
bask in the knowledge and wonder you experienced
but then let go
give it to a sleepy man on the subway
leave it on a cafe table next to the check
drop it in a lost and found
leave it behind but never the wisdom you learned
speak of it as an honor to have read
even if it didnt do too much for your ego
let go of the bindings which bind you
but never forget it’s pages and what they meant to you
