Apology For Voicemails

Truly now brother
I hoped you wouldn’t get bummed out
by my voicemail
such a long droning message and all
But Coltrane was speaking to me
through 2 of my 4 speakers
the tail lights in traffic
were sparkling on my face
and i was goin’
I was in the musical instrument
of 'come on now mitch’,
first in a multitude of inflections
that connotate a multitude of meanings,
then with the second message
a southern mama calling her son,
or a southern hillbilly calling his hound
to get in to the truck..
it was all real and true
and fresh and alive
and happening right now
and sounding genuine
and entrusting itself
and moving my heart
and driving my speed
and moving me along
and making it gleen
and working my esteem
and teasing my muse
and stroking my vox
and tuning my mind to the sound
of the kind that rolls outside
on a dime
with my watch keeping time.
can you be so sublime
as to temper my clime?
