Equinox

General relativity suggests existence
thickens into falling, or its illusion:

Inexplicable unions of travelling mass
Animated for dark-eyed nebulae.

The invention of time gave us methods
To express the emptiness of space

Approximate to the blind phenomena
Of matter. Attraction is fundamental,

And we’re more or less aware of the planets
Rattling through our heads to inhabit

That projection. We see it in each other
As dimmed starlight betraying exoplanets.

Now it’s the equinox and September rain
Falls like everything is falling, like the leaves

Write endless falling through the gore and churn,
Entangled with asters, stooped as if to be spared

The afflicted fell-bark that nourished them.
It’s a phantom, those bruising dimmit colours

On swallowed earth, and the worlds inside us falter
At its aptitude. It’s there we unravel.

It’s there we’re redrawn by concentric circles
Poured over skeletons, endlessly and always.
