Loose Ends

A love affair in the dustbin
Sadly, they are no longer friends
For it’s still raw; it hurts within
He’s gone; what remains just loose ends

A Yankee candle he gave her
The magnet from three years ago
Framed picture of them together
Giggling, frolicking in the snow

From San Francisco, a postcard
With red hearts dotting all the i’s
A stack of his books, all dog-eared
Now as she sighs, misty her eyes!

These mementos and reminders
All in a box to throw away
From the days when she had blinders;
Loose ends must go without delay

But then mem’ries are much harder
The good ones most especially
A morning walk by the harbor
Her heart beating ever so madly!

But give it time; she tells her heart
For now, free herself from loose ends
Time to rise and have a fresh start
Enjoy life while her spirit mends

Tomorrow will bring someone else
She’d welcome tender possibilities
Someone true and sincere, never false
Who’d make her tremble at the knees!
