Psychedelic Sky

A Sonnet

The red sun sank behind the western hills

Painting the sky in psychedelic hues

Crimson, tangerine, even midnight blues,

As nightfall cloaks the earth with icy chills!

Flocks of starlings in swarming escadrilles

Like acrobats o’er tow’ring pines and spruce

Offering the world spectacular views

The sky– canvas for their breathtaking skills!

I sat on a hill jutting out to sea

Watching and list’ning as the ocean waves

Crashed on giant rocks, foam quickly they be

Wave after wave into their wat’ry graves

Silent I stood, admiring the beauty

For us all, whether we be saints or knaves!
