Step right up

I hide here
behind a genuine misbelief
that I am special,
I am different
I and only I
can be the one
who mans the middle
of the Carny wheel;
the one that I create
in my manipulative mind;
so to place each of you
there in your rightful places,
dancing to the tune
of my very special needs.

I am so silky smooth.
I won’t look you in the eye.
You will see me
gazing off into the distance,
appearing noble,
perhaps even wise.

But I have your number;
all you have to do is fall
into my subtle web.

I am here to man the middle
of a wheel that always turns,
only ever in my clever mind.

I am the Carny barker;
Oh so smooth.
Oh so subtle.
Step right up,
lots of room upon the wheel.

Just remember who it is
that mans the middle,
and your place upon the wheel
shall be secure.
