Among the many words I didn’t know
before I met you, I remember three:
prolific, crass, and brine. You called me prolific
because I was always writing poems
enumerating the crass things I would do
to you whose body smells like brine.
Five years, and my brain has made room
for new vocabularies, but my whole
nervous system still yearns for you.
