You Wanted

I wish I’d been there when you needed me.
I’m not with you now, but I should be.
You thought I was the one you wanted.
But I ran away because I was haunted.
You said I was beautiful, I didn’t believe you.
I have so many secrets, you never knew.
So many things I wanted you to know.
I didn’t have a choice, I had to go.
I wished for and waited on your call,
And you wished you’d read the writing on the wall.
Now I’ll pray for you, looking toward the sky,
While you wait for me to look you in the eye.
We haven’t seen each other in a year.
I still have to tell you what you need to hear.
There are so many stories the pictures don’t tell,
I left, and you wondered why you fell.
It all went wrong, but you don’t know how.
But I know you cry yourself to sleep now.
It was my fault, I hurt you, I deserved it.
You didn’t deserve that, not one bit.

(2013)

About a guy I met at summer camp. He said he loved me and I liked him, but I couldn't get that close.
