Closet break

Clichés are only clichés because they're so damn apt.

No matter how many smiles, reassurances, lies I pile in front of the door,
It never ceases to creep open again.
The skeletons peer out, tauntingly,
Watching– predators,
Waiting for my entire infrastructure to collapse beneath their weight.

No matter how hard I push,
How carefully I fill the cracks,
They are never out of sight.
Never out of mind.

(2015)

First draft, quickly penned. Likely to add to this at a later date.
