Little Soldier

Suit up Little Soldier,
Stand here straight and tall,
Look me in the eyes and promise me
That you’ll stand up to them all.

You’ve got your hands in your pockets,
A backpack guards your hind,
Just a shirt to cover your little chest,
And a smile to show you’re fine.

Go on Little Soldier,
Leave and do as you’re told,
Fulfill your duties, impress your leaders,
And you’ll accomplish as you go.

Your shirt may not be bulletproof
Or word proof where you’re at,
Just ignore the ones who bring you down,
And harm the ones who attack.

I worry Little Soldier,
Every day that you leave,
That one day you won’t return because,
One person found where you’re weak.

Sticks and stones are old ways of torture,
Words are the guns of today,
Just shut your mouth; put the safety on,
If it’s not a positive thing to say.

Little Solider listen to me,
You know what is right,
This twelve year war is so damn long,
Remember your enemy’s on the inside.

Fight your tears as best you can,
And the muscles that make you frown,
Ignorance will get you far,
Until you find what you care about.

Come home safe and sound,
Your smile will grow bolder,
I have faith you’ll make it through each day,
Stay brave Little Soldier.
