The Truth Hurts

In the storm I close my eyes
Think about their pathetic lies
They’re hiding shame, sharing blame
Nothing can ever be the same

In the dark the shadows prowl
The light’s whispers turn to growls
Once smiling faces are now frowns
Screaming, yelling, familiar sounds

The nights eyes stare back at me
Keeping me safe, setting me free
Holding me there, won’t let go
Whispering the truth no one knows

The pain they’ve caused
The things they’ve said
The lies they used
To fill your head

I’ll let this go, set it free
This pain they’ve caused inside of me
I can’t let my heart turn to stone
Or else I’ll live this life alone
