The Road

The Road
By: Austin Rand

I walked day by day on the road with no end.
The cracked diamond path was my only true friend
But that I was fine with... Ignorant and blind
Just a kid who was searching
Not ready to find.

I once shed a tear
When I glanced over to see
Myself walking back, on this trail without me.
Now I walked alone, a mind without thought, eyes without vision, my heart in a knot.
And then only then, Bearing this heavy load, I dropped all my bags and took a fork in the road.

You see this road was different, unpaved and self—made. Filled with dreams and ideas and none were the same
an escape from the hardship, the day to day the pain, that comes with giving so much with nothing to gain.

The world was so fake but this route was so real
I was sick of doing what others thought was ideal
so I ran down this path of mistake and regret,
I was changing, and thinking as my face dripped with sweat.
And when I stopped at the end. Empty of woe. I looked up to find the friend who had left long ago.
