Swim

In these darker days
When the wind sucks through the trees like hollow teeth
Hide with me and hold our ears
For that sirens song is sick with fear
And will only freeze our wings
So listen not, and sing!

In this dust bowl of our souls
When locusts eat at the threads of our last belief
Come away and give them not your gaze
For what we see we become
And we have come too far for comfortably numb
So look only with your heart, and laugh!

And when the river seems too wide to cross
Filled with the beasts of our despair, just below the dark skin of its surface
Then scream, and hurl your body to the void
And swim like you have never swam before, swim like a madman in the night
Swim!
for we struggle toward the only shore worth drowning for
And I promise you, we will lay breathless in that sand
