A nonet for my late father.
Gazing at candles blazing blue flame
Ignite memories of his name.
Ever gently taunting me
To recall faded time.
Forgotten, I’ve not
Eyes that sparkle,

A nonet is a format consisting of 9 lines. The first line contains 9 syllables; second line contains 8 syllables; third line 7 and so on, all the way down to the last line, which contains only 1 syllable.
The inspiration for this piece came from a candle that my kindergartener had constructed at school (out of paper) that bore a single cornflower flame. It made me think of my dad for some reason, and I wrote this poem. So, it goes from father to daughter, and daughter to son...
