Practical Empathy

There comes a time when
Mother Inner Nature gets tired
of feeding the needs of
an insatiable child
who drains her energy
and wastes her time
using up resources
unneeded for quality’s sake.

More prudent offspring
rue the day they save
and sacrifice, and
make do for another day.

That other day is here,
and some look woefully back
to see the harm they’ve done
pursuing useless goals, as throngs
stretched out their hands
and bare their souls to her
whose empathy knows no bounds,
yet watches while lessons learned
exact their toll, paying the piper
who guards the BOTTOM LINE.
