Snake Woman

SnakeWoman
by Chris Warren Smith

A woman by day.
A snake by night.
One brings you fright.
The other delight.
I hiss. I twist.
I give you a kiss.
I slither and
my skin withers.
I need a new dress
So I shed the old one.
It’s time to impress
with a new shiny one.
Did I seduce Eve?
What do you conceive?
Am I the poison
Or the antidote?
Do you swim with me
Or back get in the boat?
You fear me but
I’m inside you.
Its called your spine.
I have been their
the whole time.
Kundalini serpent or snake
What do you make?
Of me?
You cut me from your
mother so you can be free.
You rarely see me
But I’m on your mind.
Misunderstood
Most of the time.
You think you can
Charm me with your flute.
But I can’t hear
And I am mute.
My cousin the Dragon
gets all the attention.
But they don’t mention
that I cause the tension.

This is an archetypal poem about a friend of mine.
