Ghost Ship

She is the captain of the Ghost Ship.
No sail on this boat.
Her spirit moves it.
The vessel is dark to conceal her.
Because she has a beauty
that can silence the Sirens.
Whenever she reaches port,
men see her and fall under a spell.
But it is not of her doing.
When men are confronted with
an attraction like this,
they are lost at sea.
They are deluded by their expectations
of what a woman is or should be.
They see her as a prize.
Someone to be fought for.
Or worse, to be fought over.
Someone to be earned.
And the most dangerous,
Someone to exalt.
One by one they drown.
More ghosts for the ship.
So she stays at sea
Where she revels in the mystery.
In the vastness.
Like the ocean
She is a spirit free from man’s image.
She is simply a truth.
A beacon.
A lighthouse on a ghost ship.

This is an archetypal poem about a real person.
