When Fall Fled

I think it was just before Winter
When the change took her away.
Yes— I think it was then, not sure when,
That Fall left the forest, to stay.

She stepped from the trees for a moment
And onto the path to tomorrow.
Such a simple act displaced the fact
That a river was cried, called Sorrow.

Oh woes are we in the season-less year
There’s just Winter and Summer, they say.
I think I shall grieve on the very eve
When Fall left the forest to stay.
