Once My Heart Opened

Once I let my guard down and opened my heart to you–
it spoke to me of it’s love for you.
It told me to write out what it tells me–
in the form of letters and poetry.

It aches when you’re not near–
and when we argue it suffocates with fear.
It sings aloud when you say those sweet nothings–
it belongs to you on a set of golden strings.

It melts when we look into each others eyes–
and when we hug it doubles in size.
It races when our bodies become entangled–
it feels unified as we dance that tango.

It calms when we lay together drifting off to rest–
when you make sure we are touching it feels blessed.
It vibrates in its cage when you lean in and kiss me–
the feel of your soft lips setting my fears free.

It skips a beat when you show public affection–
in those moments feeling such a strong connection.
It swoons when you run your fingers through my hair–
the affect that you have on me is so very rare.

It tickles when we laugh together–
wanting to hear your laugh forever.
It’s comforted by any little touch–
it really doesn’t take much.

It stops with a sharp pain when I think that you might leave–
that kind of loss I would surely have to grieve.
It feels all of these feelings all about you–
and it compels me to stay strong and true.

My heart is open and I get scared–
with all of my thoughts and feelings bared.
It was convinced once we were paired–
my past heartache was repaired.
