This Promise I Promise to You

I give you this promise ring made of gems and gold,
This promise I give to you so courageous and bold.
A promise to court only you and no one else,
But you must promise to me the same and no less.
Not only will it be your words that I need,
But it will be your actions that I will really heed.
Because even as you whisper to me I love you baby,
Your words sound like yes yet your actions feel more like maybe.
Only time will tell what you really do want,
So for now my love and desire I will not flaunt.
Though my love and intentions I have clearly bestowed,
Each day that passes without change it will continue to erode.
I can hold onto the hope for only so long,
When the hope is depleted then I will be gone.
Though I did promise this promise to you,
It is false unless you too become true.
So pay close attention to what it is that you tell me,
And what it is that you are doing that I can see.
For my love for you I do promise is pure,
A one-sided commitment no one can endure.
So know that my love for you I do proudly profess,
And my heart I completely offer for you to possess.
I want more than anything for you to reciprocate,
You must do so before my feelings dissipate.
For now until your promise I get in return,
