Sonnet VI: We All Provide

A spent labor-man stopped me in the heat—
So you’ve already wiped off today’s sweat?

You’re a soldier, and the war has your legs?
You’re a nurse, here in case someone gets hurt?
You’re just taking a break from laying eggs?

You must be collecting food for the hill
The one you worked wholeheartedly to build.

To think deeply can be quite strenuous.
Some might say I work just as hard as you.
His head shakes, and face clearly dubious.

I am not moving back and forth for miles
Battle doesn’t keep me gone for a while
I don’t sit in some kind of royal style.
But you don’t know what I do for the pile.

(2013)

Created my own formula for the classic 14-line Sonnet:
[Iambic Pentameter]
AA BCB DD EFE GGGG
