Element of Risk

Delicious indecision
Wreaks havoc
On my impulsive heart
Riddled with addictive roots.

Slink away and
Strike down what’s making me
Beautiful and warm?

Hold my breath
And go under,
Hoping the happiness within
I’ve been lucky to find this late
Survives?

Are warm, enveloping hands,
Cushioned lips that give me air,
A knowing smile,
The crook of his arm
Worth the pain
That dangles dangerously
From a branch over my head?

I shift my weight
From right to left,
Cocking my head
To smile at him and to
Better listen
For the sharp crack
That’s sure to come from above.
