Part One: Life

            XXVII

I’M nobody! Who are you?
Are you nobody, too?
Then there ’s a pair of us—don’t tell!
They ’d banish us, you know.
How dreary to be somebody!
How public, like a frog
To tell your name the livelong day
To an admiring bog!

who am i
to think i could
write a poem
that would do justice
to this golden moment
frozen by your hand
lock in wonder
a glimpse of reality
an impression of surrealistic beauty
a sight to behold
a flash of the inevitable
a peek into infinity
just another sunset to you
you say
just another foaming day
you say
just another murky sky
you say
but to me
faces locked in stone
a rainbow underwater
a sea of emotions
a fish in the clouds
all extract the wonder
from my mind
and send it tumbling
onto shore again and again
ceaseless, caressing, curing
the salt stings my eyes
they cry tears of music
my ears crash with thunder
they hear the peaceful churning
my soul bonds with her
once again in the ebb and flow
of mystery
who am i
to think i could
write a poem
that would do justice
to this golden moment
who am i
