Echoes of a Fateful Meeting

You shall not set my soul alight

A week ago, in a quiet life,
I dwelt in realms of mild disquiet,
In shadows deep, a spark dares ignite,
A silent buzz bubbling with excitement.

All but a touch is all it took,
My heart now wears a heavy shroud.
Clarity, a sharp, unbidden trace,
A grief for what can’t be avowed.

Oh, cruel test, this fateful fate,
A dream I touch, but can’t possess.
A space of beauty, yet belate,
A love, a hope, a sweet distress.

You came, a comet’s fleeting flight,
I pray, depart with swiftness fair.
Let healing hands embrace the night,
And in its void, find hope laid bare.

For in this meeting, stark and bright,
I glean a truth, a whispered sign,
That out there waits a world alight,
A love that someday shall be mine.

Farewell, dear spark, forever night,
You shall not set my soul alight.
