Boding Raven

“Some battles are won with swords and spears, others with quills and ravens.”
– George R.R. Martin
Game of Thrones

After sudden torrential rain
Gliding soaring boding raven
Mindful of extreme summer heat
Searching for a sheltered haven

On the branch of a looming oak
There he rested feathers shaken
Sad tearless eyes; a muted croak
Hopeful he’s sadly mistaken

Sense of sinister foreboding
Something ill about to happen
Low rumbling his keen ears can hear
Portent of the coming dragon

Raven celestial messenger
Of good and ill the harbinger

Raven’s symbolic meanings, like that of other specific birds, is that of messenger. Often, stories and lore involve Raven doing the work of the Deities and acting as a messenger or intermediary. Raven is symbolic of battle, protection and fighting for what you believe in.

Ravens are one of the most important and prevalent symbols in mythology, literature, art, and religion around the world. Their dark feathers often represent death or rebirth while their intelligence is a symbol for knowledge. Ravens have been historically associated with evil omens but also stand as a protector of secrets.
