October Nights

“I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.”
L. M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables

The cool ocean-scented breeze blew gently

Leaves on trees whispered a sibilant hiss

In the clear starry sky, a sense heav’nly

Dog days gone as we welcome autumn bliss

Summer’s stifling heat just a memory

In the moonlit night, nothing seems amiss

Autumn scents, cinnamon and blue berry

Fill the air, delightful rapturous kiss

Alas! The pleasant days go by quickly

In the wintry cold these days we shall miss

Perhaps not of spring we will dream nightly

It’s cool October nights we’ll reminisce
