Swallows

Legend has it that the swallows took refuge in the Mission San Juan Capistrano from an irate innkeeper who destroyed their muddy nests. The swallows return to the old ruined church each spring knowing they will be protected within the mission's walls.

Few thousand miles swallows travel
Twice a year in mass migration
To party somewhere temperate
Avoid winter hibernation

The swallows leave Capistrano
To more sunny destination
A place south of the equator
For the entire snowy season

We view the swallows with green eyes
Wish we could leave for no reason
If only we'd grow feathered wings
Every year– winter vacation

Alas we’re an earth-bound species
But our minds set beyond the seas
