The Last Love

“A man is lucky if he is the first love of a woman.
A woman is lucky if she is the last love of a man.”
Charles Dickens

They met in the summer of their youth
In a faraway place, a school up in the hills
He’s a man of the world, that’s the sad truth
But she’s sheltered, living as God wills

There was magic when they saw each other
A throbbing sensation close to her heart
His pulse quickened, as he gazed at her
They knew from then on, they cannot part!

In her young life, he’s the very first man
Ever to pull at her heart’s strings...
Yes! He’s loved before, as only youth can
For the seventh, but last time, his heart sings!

Indeed, he’s her first love, all can see
Faithful she’ll be, till she’s old and gray...
He found his lady, and the fates did agree
When they met was the most perfect day

It is often said, first loves never die
Romantic notions that make ladies sigh!

But truly I say to you; lucky is the woman
Who is the last love of her man!!!
