Near Miss

She got in her car and drove away
Leaving nothing at the crime
I didn’t know what to say
She made me and my morals sway
When she left me behind the yellow tape

The sirens echoed around the corner
She was already gone
With foot on the gas
Wearing that mask
The one that she often did

This time it was different
It started with hello and ended with a kiss
At first shot the bullet missed
But she got me with the knife of a break up

I tried to call her on the phone
I guess no one was home
She wasn’t by herself
But I was alone
With the smell of my cologne
And the memory of her tone

My friends say that I’m stalking
All I want is some of that sweet talking
To hear the voice that said it all
Me who dropped the ball
I tried to call
I’ve never felt so small

Why did I give it all to her
I should of got a receipt
Now I can’t return
Everything that the fire has burned
