Five Ferrets

Joey is an Eskimo, furry white with warm red eyes
gleaming—he’s a laid back sort of fellow who
loves to sleep. When it’s time to eat, he’s the last
one up as he stretches and yawns and slowly
scratches his belly as if to say
Do I have to get up?

Russian Rachel wears a petite brown sable
with a pooch-banded girdle around her middle.
She follows the baseboards to navigate from
room to room because, you see, she is blind,
but don’t tell her it’s because she’s getting old.
She is very sensitive about her age.

Frankie is a home-grown boy from the Appalachians
with brown long johns and a big beer belly
that drags across the floor as he walks. He
is gentle and kind and has never raised a hand
against a female or uttered a curse word from his mouth.
He is a cuddly bear.

Sandy is Parisian, and it is so obvious she loves to dance,
even backwards, locking her eyes onto yours.
An audience is what she craves and stares
seductively to draw them  in and teases when
they get too close. She’s a skillful flirt
and everyone loves her for it.

Honey is from Tokyo—small and lean, with her
straight hair parted down the middle. She’s a quiet
girl that only talks when she has something
important to say. But boys tend to like her
because she’s a good listener. It’s too bad
that she likes to sleep around.
