My Jackson Chameleon

Inspired by a chameleon that lives in my garden

My Jackson Chameleon

A Jackson lives in my garden
Loves my rain forest realm
He snaps and zaps his long tongue
It truly can overwhelm

Often hides in bushes
Or in his favorite tree
When he is in the shade
He is never afraid of me

He sits upon my orchid
Thinking this is really strange
The beauty is a contrast
To a color he can’t change

He is God’s great creation
Like a creature from long ago
Male’s head has three horns, while
Female has no horns, you know

He likes to sit upon my head
And watch the world go by
Maybe I’ll stop and sit a while
So he can try to catch a fly

His patience is quite amazing
Then slowly shuffles to his prey
His moon walk makes me laugh
Tricks the bug he’s about to slay

When on my head he’s so green
I’m sure he feels out of place
Don’t want him to slip and fall
So I walk with style and grace

My chameleon friend is a delight
While eating breakfast he will come
When I’ll reach out my hand to hold him
He slowly crawls upon my thumb
