I Am Not

I am not my government,
I am not my home.
Or the clothes I wear,
Or the places I go.
I am not the things I leave behind.
I am not my country’s borderline.
I am not twice– I am only once.
I am not the color of my skin,
Or the dirt underneath my nails.
I am not my job or the photo on my phone.
I am not my sex or my religious creed.
I am who I choose to be.
