I See You

I. Am. White.
Just a man who
By the
Pigment of my skin
Is laden with privilege
And it is my job
To recognize
And educate myself

I know what you’re thinking
Oh great another white liberal
Who thinks he knows what it is to be black
Another, protest poem written by a
social.justice.warrior

I’m not sure why justice is
politicized
But see, I’m not one of those guys
I’m not on the left
Not in the middle
Not on the right

See, I am convicted
Not by some political edicts
Or a political figurehead that I think
Will save me
But by justice and equality

I may not be black but I stand with you
I may not be black but I see you
I see your struggle
and your agonizing pain
Some folks think that
Because King marched
Everything is sane

They forget that he was shot
It wasn’t even in the hood
Racism killed him
Really it did

Just like his black life mattered
All #blacklivesmatter

#blacklivesmatter because for
hundreds of years they didn’t
#blacklivesmatter because not all
lives are in danger
#blacklivesmatter to me
because I care
