He

He left too soon.

He didn’t leave but he never stayed.

He took me away from the only place I’ve ever known.

Back to a place I no longer call home.

He’s easily defined and anyone can play his part.

He’s the reason I look at people the way that I do.

He promised me the world without saying a word.

One look in his eyes, and I believed in him.

He’s the reason I walk without moving,

with no direction at all,

with nothing but love wrapped around my finger.

He followed in his footsteps.

What else can I say?

He’s the reason I love and the reason I hate,

and the reason my reasoning never makes any sense.

He is a fool. She is a bigger one.

She keeps her mouth shut; should I have learned to do the same?

He’s the reason I don’t know any other way to live,

so I smile at people, only inside, I don’t.

He opened up a whole new world for me.

He takes away my worries with just the sparkle in his eyes.

His laugh is the soundtrack to my life,

and he’s the only reason I haven’t given up.

(2010)

This poem is about the issues in my life that I've always had with men, and they all began with my father. Sad, but true.
