Thoughts From Friendly Valley

like the name says,
we were there together.
and it wasn’t long before
we had built a fire and
stargazing became staring down
the flames.
caught between our light
and the light above–
and the fire made us tell stories,
made us lose track of meteors in beach debris–
the fire told us when to leave.

when we pulled into the driveway:
a deer eating from our apple tree.
