Bicycle Tires and Banjo Echoes

Sit awhile and play, refrain from straying,
just long enough to sing, what might strike
the cords in my brain, that connect me to you.
Don’t forget everything that made you strong,
before you were weak, and know, even though
you empower me, I'm here to give it back.

So just sit awhile and play, and wait for the sun to set,
to remind us of how beauty spills over, even the darkness.
Don’t forget me when you hear the echoes of the past,
distracting the healing sounds of your banjo.

So just sit awhile and play, the new members are coming in.
Remember me and I’ll remember you,
and I’ll always say you were part of me,
I wanted to hug you,
and say you were my brother,
through adoption, I found you at last.

So just sit awhile and play, for tomorrow is long.
We leave for the coast on bicycles, marking our liberation.
We leave with strength, marking our resilience.
We leave with camaraderie, marking our hope.

So just sit awhile and play, before we ride.
There will be plenty of stops along the way.
There will be plenty of sunsets across this land,
and there will be endless times to sit and play.
