Papier-mâché smiles

Darkness has returned, the pendulum that is my life, is now spending more and more time within the gloom that encompasses me . My ever growing array of papier-mâché smiles laid out before me . Carefully each morning I choose the one which will adorn my face . It’s madness hiding the madness, simply put . But the grin each paper masks covers must be hidden from view . It is that of a crazy man, soon eyeglasses will accompany each molded smile . And not long after that, I probably will not dare leave home without the cover of darkness. Not the type within my head, more so the darkness that allows people to sleep, the lucky ones who are able to escape reality, if only for but a few hours . I envy them as I walk the streets, alone with the thought of what I’ve become . Stareing  into the darkness of each blank window, like empty eyes of sadness, tracing each step I take off into the night.
