The Ballad of Flight 1549

BALLAD OF FLIGHT 1549

Our engines quit at 3000 feet
Attacked by Canadian Geese, visible from my seat.
The Airbus 320 was falling fast from the sky,
And on board 155 complete strangers prepared to die.
We held each other for the remaining seconds in the sky,
Trying to call loved ones to say our last goodbyes.
The plane was quiet, flight attendants and pilots put to the ultimate test
We had no idea then, that we all would be blessed.
Teterboro and LaGuardia we would not make
I’ll be in the Hudson!‚¬declared the Captain for goodness sake
The rescue teams from Jersey and New York City stood tall,
And reminded us why they are among the bravest of all
We defied death, it  wasn’t  our time, on this 15th day of Jan 2009
Because we were flying with Sully and his angels on Flight 1549.

(2009)

I wrote this shortly after Capt Sullenberger went sown in the Hudson
