Immersion

Starlight immerses
with the speckled water.
Who knows which side is real?
I tried to jump, thereafter,
the opposing mirror
but
never got a good
feel for which reflection
held onto my portrait
as if painted by
the natural ripyples and colors
of true revelation, interpretation
and Heaven. Eternity
could fancy me a smile
and all the while
I’d be wondering why
the water never lasts
or how stars always
disappear
and how light
can turn
into forbidden shadow.
Night, so quick and dark,
what is on your other side?
Daytime is elusive.
It doesn’t understand polarity but
the night, as it smiles beneath
a thick, black pool of unknowing,
comprehends what is
and why I’m there.
